Small things make a bathroom work. A towel rail in the right spot, a toilet roll holder that does not wobble, a shaving cabinet that stays shut, a mirror at the right height and a shower screen that closes without leaking. When these are loose, missing or poorly placed, the room is frustrating to use every single day.
We install and repair bathroom fixtures and accessories in homes, rentals and small businesses across Cranbourne and the surrounding suburbs. We fix them securely to tiles, plasterboard and masonry, and seal penetrations so water stays out of the wall.
What we install and repair
- Towel rails, towel rings and robe hooks
- Toilet roll holders
- Glass and metal shelves and shower caddies
- Bathroom mirrors and shaving cabinets
- Toilet seats
- Shower screen handles, door seals and wipers
- Soap dishes and dispensers
- Vanity handles, hinges and drawer runners
- Bathroom exhaust fan covers
- Safety grab rails (see aged care and disability rails)
- Laundry accessories such as hanging rails and shelves
Heated towel rails that need wiring, new tapware and plumbing changes need licensed trades. We fix non-electrical, non-plumbing items and can work alongside your electrician or plumber.
Fixing to tiles
Most bathroom accessories go onto tiled walls. Drilling tiles needs care: the right drill bit, slow speed, no hammer action and accurate marking. We use tile and diamond bits, masking tape to stop bits wandering and wall plugs suited to what is behind the tile.
Before drilling, we check for pipes and cables. Water pipes often run vertically above and below taps and horizontally between fixtures. We use detectors and plan positions away from likely service runs. After fixing, we seal around screws with silicone so water cannot track into the wall.
Fixing to plasterboard
Bathrooms in many Cranbourne homes have tiles only around the shower and vanity, with painted plasterboard elsewhere. Water-resistant plasterboard is still plasterboard. Light accessories can use hollow-wall anchors, but towel rails and anything that might be pulled or leaned on should go into studs or noggings, or use heavy-duty anchors.
Towel rails
Towel rails are pulled on daily and often come loose. The usual cause is fixings into plasterboard alone or fixings that were never sealed. We re-fix loose rails with stronger fixings and patch old holes. For double towel rails and heated rails, which are heavier, we make sure fixings go into framing.
Good towel rail positions are near the shower exit and away from the toilet, at a height everyone in the household can reach.
Mirrors and shaving cabinets
Bathroom mirrors are often glued directly to the wall or held with clips. Shaving cabinets are screwed into framing. When replacing a mirror or cabinet, we check the old fixings, remove adhesive where possible and patch the wall before fitting the new unit. Cabinets with lights need an electrician to connect power.

Toilet seats
Toilet seats wear out, and hinges loosen. We replace seats with standard or soft-close models, matching the pan shape and hinge type. Measuring the pan before buying a new seat avoids frustration. We can help you choose.
Shower screens
Framed and semi-frameless shower screens have handles, magnetic seals, wipers and hinges that wear out. Common problems include:
- Loose or broken handles
- Worn door seals letting water escape
- Doors that drop and rub
- Magnetic catches that no longer hold
We replace seals and wipers, tighten or replace handles and adjust doors where hardware allows. Damaged glass and full screen replacements are best done by a shower screen supplier.
Vanities
Vanity doors, drawers and handles wear just like kitchen cupboards. We adjust and replace hinges and runners and fix loose handles. Water-damaged vanity panels can sometimes be replaced. See kitchen cupboard repairs for more on swollen particleboard.
Rentals and quick refreshes
Replacing tired towel rails, mirrors and toilet seats is an easy way to refresh a rental or a home before sale. We install matched sets so the bathroom looks consistent.
Planning accessory positions
Good bathroom layouts put each item where it is needed without getting in the way. Useful guidelines:
- Toilet roll holders sit within easy reach of the toilet, slightly forward of the seat, at a comfortable seated height. Too far back means twisting; too high or low is awkward.
- Towel rails are best near the shower exit, so you can reach a towel before stepping out. Keep them clear of door swings.
- Hand towel rings or bars belong beside the basin.
- Robe hooks work on the back of the door or near the shower, at a height for the household.
- Shelves in the shower are best away from the direct spray and within reach without stretching.
- Mirrors should centre roughly on the basin, at a height that suits the main users.
Before drilling, we mark positions and check them with you. Holes in tiles are permanent, so it is worth taking a moment.

Choosing quality accessories
Bathroom accessories range from cheap chrome-plated items to solid brass and stainless steel. Cheaper items often have thin plating that pits and rusts, and weak mounting systems. Mid-range and better products tend to have:
- Solid brass or stainless steel bodies
- Concealed mounting plates that lock the accessory in place
- Finishes rated for wet areas
- Replacement parts available
Matt black, brushed nickel and gunmetal finishes are popular in new homes around Clyde North and Cranbourne East. They look great but can show water spots and need gentle cleaning. Chrome remains the easiest to keep clean.
Concealed fixing plates
Most quality accessories mount on a small backplate that is screwed to the wall, with the accessory sliding over and secured with a grub screw. This hides the screws and makes a neat finish. The backplate must be perfectly level and firmly fixed, because any movement will show. When accessories come loose, it is often the grub screw that has backed out, which is a quick fix.
Waterproofing and penetrations
Every screw through a tile into a wet-area wall makes a small hole in the surface. Behind the tiles in showers is a waterproof membrane. In the shower recess itself, we minimise penetrations and seal every fixing with silicone. Where possible, we place accessories outside the main spray zone. Adhesive-mounted shower accessories are an option where drilling is not desirable, though they hold less weight.
Ventilation and mould
Many bathroom problems come from moisture that has nowhere to go. An exhaust fan that is too small, clogged with dust or switched off too soon leaves walls and ceilings wet. We can clean exhaust fan covers and grilles and check whether the fan is drawing air. Fan replacement and new wiring require an electrician. Running the fan for a while after showers and opening a window when possible reduce mould on silicone, grout and ceilings.
Accessibility upgrades
Small changes help people of all ages use the bathroom safely. Grab rails, a shower seat, a handheld shower on a rail, lever taps and non-slip mats can all make a difference. See aged care and disability rails for more detail.

Ensuites and powder rooms
Ensuites in many new homes are compact, and powder rooms are often tiny. Fitting accessories in tight spaces needs planning so that doors open freely and towels do not end up next to the toilet. Wall-mounted shelves and narrow towel bars can make good use of space. In powder rooms, a hand towel ring, toilet roll holder and a small mirror are usually all that is needed.
Rental bathrooms
Bathroom accessories in rentals take a lot of wear. Loose towel rails and toilet roll holders are frequent maintenance requests. Using quality fixings and accessories with solid mounting systems reduces repeat callouts. We can do a bathroom refresh between tenancies: new silicone, re-fixed accessories, a new toilet seat and touch-ups.
Laundry accessories
In laundries, we install hanging rails for drying clothes, shelving above machines, broom and mop holders, and retractable clothes lines on walls. External clothes lines can also be fitted on suitable walls or posts.
Fitting items you have bought
Many people buy accessories online or from hardware stores and need them installed. That is no problem. Before we arrive, check that the box includes the backplates, grub screws and fixings, and that the finish matches across items. Fixings supplied with accessories are often light-duty plugs suited to solid walls only, so we usually bring better fixings for tiles and plasterboard. If an item arrives damaged or incomplete, it is better to find out before the visit.
Replacing old fixtures
Removing an old towel rail or toilet roll holder leaves holes in the tiles. Options include:
- Placing the new accessory to cover the old holes if positions suit
- Filling the holes with colour-matched filler or silicone
- Replacing a damaged tile where spares are available
Choosing new accessories with a similar backplate size and fixing pattern often covers old holes neatly.
Shower seats and caddies
Fold-down shower seats must be fixed into solid framing or masonry, as they carry body weight. Shower caddies that hang from the shower arm can damage chrome and slip; a wall-mounted shelf is a better long-term choice.
